BIG TV - High Definition (HD) Channels In India Joining Thomson

High Definition - HD is a digital television technique with higher video resolution than the traditional TV providing high quality video content.

Reliance DTH service BIG TV planned to launch 300 High Definition (HD) channels in India for the first time. BIG TV is planning to launch 50 radio channels by the end of this year.

Reliance joining with Thomson to do the HD launch with the help of the effective Thomson's Video Head End equipment doing quality broadcast and to optimize the existing Reliance distribution network. The aim of BIG TV is to bring quality channels and more number of channels to their subscribers. This plan includes the IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) over broadband adding to the BIG TV DTH (direct to home) satellite system. This combines IPTV and DTH system controlled through the single Thomson's Head End system.

Trutt, VP of Thomson quotes, "Our solutions have been specifically developed to reply to the pain points encountered by operators when choosing their systems for delivering video - notably quality of service, return on investment and network distribution optimization for delivery of bandwidth heavy services such as HD".

Looks like Thomson had delivered Reliance BIG TV with Head End (HE) Equipments, MPEG-4 encoders (helping better compression techniques) to reduce the bandwidth consumption. It is agreed that Thomson gives technical, consulting support and services for Reliance to achieve this goal in the near future.

Thomson the world leader in video solutions makes Reliance BIG TV DTH to reach the heights in the end of this year 2008, let us hope Indian homes will be watching High Definition (HD) channels very soon.
